NICU Cot Donation And Hospital Tour

NICU cot donation and hospital tour

The Luca Miraglia Foundation was delighted to donate $5000 raised at “A Night Out for Luca” for a Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cot at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). Earlier in the year, Dr Rod Hunt, Director of Neonatal Medicine, gave Luca a special tour of the hospital.

Rod was the neonatal consultant doctor who oversaw Luca’s care from the time he arrived at NICU by Newborn Emergency Transport until he was nearly two years old. Not only did he help to save Luca’s life but his exceptional care and compassion were incredibly comforting in some very dark and difficult times.

“We rely heavily on donated money to allow us to provide excellent care to babies like Luca. The money that you donate will go towards equipment like ventilators and infusion pumps. The sorts of equipment that makes a journey through the NICU tolerable for parents like Rob and Lisa; comfortable chairs, parent facilities… and allow us to provide outcomes for babies like Luca that result in the wonderful little chap that you see before you. “
– Dr Rod Hunt, Director of Neonatal Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital

It was a real privilege to walk through the Butterfly ward with Rod and get a feel for how it operates and accommodates the parents and families of very sick babies. Rod pointed out some of the cutting edge, lifesaving and life changing equipment that had been purchased through donations. We are grateful for the time he gave us in his incredibly busy schedule today.

We are so proud to be able to give back to the unit that did so much for Luca in his first weeks of life.
